Zusammenfassung:Di-esters of 3 : 31-methylenebis-(4-hydroxycoumarin) are prepared by treating 3 : 31-methylenebis-(4-hydroxycoumarin) with an acyl halide or an organic acid anhydride higher than acetyl halides or acetic anhydride. The acid halide or acid anhydride is used in excess. In examples, 3 : 31-methylenebis-(4-hydroxycoumarin) is treated with (1) propionic anhydride. (2) Butyryl chloride. (3) Isobutyryl chloride. (4) n-Valeryl chloride. (5) Isovaleryl chloride. (6) n-Caproyl chloride. (7) n-Heptanoyl chloride. (8) Benzoyl chloride. (9) Trimethylacetyl chloride. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of a basic organic solvent. This must be done if an acyl halide is used, but need not be done if an organic acid anhydride is employed.
