Nov. 21, 1933, No. 32464. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] An ignition composition for use in lowtension electric fuze heads comprises a mixture of finely divided zirconium and an easily ignitable lead salt of a nitrophenol or nitrophenol derivative, for example the basic lead salt of 2-mononitroresorcin. Suitable proportions of zirconium are 35 to 95 per cent. The mixture may be used in loose form about the electric bridge wire, or may be agglomerated with a cement such as nitrocellulose. The composition produces little gas and may therefore be used in fuzes of the closed type as well as in fuzes of the open type. Specification 192,830 is referred to for the manufacture of a basic lead salt of a highly nitrated organic compound to be mixed with metallic powders for use in percussion caps.
