Zusammenfassung:	A system for a utility meter comprising: a first means 130 to detect rotation of an element of the utility meter and to create a pulse on the basis of rotation of the said element, and transmission means 13 to transmit pulse data to an external computer 120; and a second means 4 comprising at least one camera 112 directed at at least part of the alphanumerical string comprising the register 100 of the meter, and transmission means 13 to send data representative of the output of the or each camera 112 to an external computer 120. Another aspect is a computer for a utility meter system, the computer comprising logging means to receive pulse data from a utility meter system, and image means to receive image data from the same utility meter system. The computer may include means arranged to stitch or juxtapose images each captured by a plurality of cameras to create the data of a complete image.
