A sports training aid

A sports training aid 1 comprises multiple strike pads 3A each including an impact sensor, a store for holding a unique ID and a strike pad controller. The strike pad controllers wirelessly transmit their ID to a system controller in response to being hit. In a configuration mode the system controller pairs IDs received from the strike pads with target IDs of a sequence of IDs stored in a register in the system controller. In an operational mode the system controller communicates a sequence of target IDS to the user via a use interface 5 and uses these pairs recorded during the configuration mode to determine if the right strike pads have been struck by the user. The configuration mode enables the system to determine the number of strike pads, their type (if applicable), and their relative positions. Additionally, it allows the system to accommodate changes to the plurality of strike pads, e.g. replacement, removal or addition of one or more strike pads, and/or a change in the spatial positioning of the strike pads relative to one another, e.g. pads swapping positions.
