Zusammenfassung:Lateral wall assembly sensing system 10 comprising a base plate 30, wear resistant layer 32 having a rear surface 42 mounted on a front side 26 of the base plate 30, and a front surface 40 for mounting in proximity to a grinding roller edge (fig. 6), a sensor 54 mounted in a cavity 56 defined in the base plate 30 to measure a distance from the sensor 54 to the front surface 40 of the wear resistant layer, and a collector (60 fig. 6) coupled to the sensor 54 to determine the wear of the layer 32 based on the distance measured. There may be a receiver 52 coupled to the sensor 54 and collector to relay information. The base plate 30 may be mounted to a removable backing plate 20. The sensor 54 may be an ultrasonic sensor, there may be a plurality of sensors, to create a topographical map of the surface. A grinding roller machine may comprise the lateral wall assembly. A method of measuring the wear of a wear resistant layer is disclosed.
