Zusammenfassung:	A distributed control system 102 including a first control unit 124a coupled to a first piece of well equipment 104a and includes a control module arranged to control a first physical task 122a performed by the first piece of well equipment. A second control unit 124b is coupled to a second piece of well equipment 104b and arranged to control a second physical task 122b performed by the second piece of well equipment. The first control unit includes a second control module that can be enabled to take over control of the second physical task in response to a failure of the second control unit as part of an automatic failover process. State data can be used to identify failure and determine that the first control module should take over from the second control module.
