Zusammenfassung:A haircare appliance comprises a processor such as a microcontroller unit (MCU) 48 having a first input 130. A temperature processing circuit 96 is separate to the processor 48 and has a second input 132. A temperature sensor 84 is provided for sensing a temperature within the haircare appliance and outputting a temperature signal indicative of the sensed temperature. The temperature signal is supplied to the first and second inputs 130, 132 in parallel. A buffer 88 is disposed in series between the first input, the second input and the temperature sensor. The buffer prevents or mitigates any effect of a signal generated on the first input 130. Such effects may arise, for example, from a hardware or software malfunction of the MCU 48. The processor may comprise an analogue to digital converter which may be in the same physical package as the processor. The processor may be disposed in a first housing and the temperature sensor may be disposed in a second housing connected to the first housing by a cable. A further disclosed invention relates to controlling the drive circuitry for a heater in a hair styling appliance.
