Head coil systems for MRI, S, and methods involving a plurality of portions 201 and 202, each portion having a receiver coil and a frame configured to accommodate the receiver coil (201c, 202c, figure 5C), and each portion configured to couple and decouple 250,256 with another portion; at least one coupling feature configured to at least one of couple, lock, unlock, and decouple 254,255,258 at least one portion of in relation to another; at least one coupling feature having a forward coupling feature and an aft coupling feature; and a tilting feature (204, figure 4C) configured to dispose at least one portion of the plurality of portions at an angle in relation to a horizontal plane thus reducing psychological distress of the patient.
