A power control method for a motor of an air-moving device

A method to control an input power of a motor of an air-moving device is disclosed. The method comprises: determining an operating parameter of a motor (an operating pressure or an airflow rate through the motor); determining, based on the operating parameter and a first pre-determined relationship between values of the operating parameter of the motor and values of an inlet restriction of the airmoving device, a value of the inlet restriction of the air-moving device; and controlling the input power of the motor based on this determination. The motor power may be adjusted according to a set profile that relates input power values to restriction values. The method allows power to be adapted to appropriate levels for the restriction present and inferred when no other sensor information is available, such as when passive tools are used with vacuum cleaners. An air moving device, which may be a vacuum cleaner, which operates the method is also disclosed.
