Vacuum cleaner

A vacuum cleaner is described that comprises a bin, a nozzle (118, fig 5) to which an attachment may be releasably attached, and an interlock mechanism 120. The bin includes a bin body (110, fig 5) and a bin base (116, fig 5), and the bin base is moveable relative to the bin body between an open position and a closed position. The interlock mechanism has at least two configurations selected from a first configuration, a second configuration and a third configuration. In the first configuration, the interlock mechanism prevents attachment of an attachment to the nozzle when the bin base is in the open position. In the second configuration, the interlock mechanism permits attachment of an attachment to the nozzle when the bin base is in the closed position. In the third configuration, the interlock mechanism prevents movement of the bin base from the closed position to the open position when an attachment is attached to the nozzle.
