Door monitoring system

A method is provided of configuring a door monitoring system in an environment where doors contain ligature detection devices, such as psychiatric hospitals and prisons. The method comprises displaying a floor plan of a building including one or more doors 420, each comprising a ligature-detection device; receiving a user input indicative of a selection of one of the doors 404; and, based on the user input, monitoring a status of the selected door 406. The method may be repeated such that a plurality of doors are selected and monitored. The user input may comprise dragging and dropping an icon over a displayed door to select that door for monitoring. Monitoring the status of the door may comprise determining whether a status of the door has changed 408 and modifying the manner in which the door is presented on the displayed floor plan in response thereto 410. Monitoring a selected door may comprise determining: whether the door is open or closed; whether the ligature detection device of the door has been triggered; whether the status of the door or ligature detection device can be accurately determined; and whether the door has responded to a status update request.
