Zusammenfassung:	In a method and apparatus for monitoring the condition of a pressure-containing vessel/pipe 4, a force sensitive sensor (3) is applied to the pipe 4 externally, outer surface 4o, of the pipe. The stress applied to the pipe is measured by monitoring output of the sensor assembly 2 by determining a compression force applied to the pipe. The sensor assembly comprises an array of sensors (3, figure 2) housed within a fixing member (10) which comprises a housing shell (11) and a clamp (12). The sensors (3) are attached to an inner surface (11i) of the housing shell (11) and the clamp (12) is engaged with an outer surface (11o) of the housing shell (11). The internal pressure of the pipe is measured by monitoring output of a pressure measurement system 30. The wall thickness of the pipe is determined using the measured stress applied to the pipe and the measured internal pressure of pipe 4.
