A steering column assembly for a vehicle

A steering column assembly for a vehicle includes an elongate steering column 14 rotatable about its longitudinal axis 16 to which a steering wheel 18 is attachable at one end. A first gear 24 is connected to steering column 14 away from steering wheel 18 and rotates with the steering column. First and second motors 28, 30 are provided, each having an output shaft 32, 34 connected to and rotatable with respective worm screws 46, 48 which are engaged with first gear 24, with control means to operate each motor. Motor position sensor means sense the rotational position of output shafts 32, 34, with each sensor means having a sensor 58, 60 for detecting a target fixed to a respective output shaft on the opposite side of its worm screw from its motor. Each control means includes a substantially planar circuit board (66, 68, Figure 1) with one or more electrical and/or electronic components, with the plane of each circuit board inclined to longitudinal axis 16.
