Articulating Piston Insert

A piston, for the actuation of a brake pad, comprising a body 30 having a base end 32, a pad end 34 and a side wall 33. An axis X-X extends from the base end 32 to the pad end 34. The pad end 34 having a cap contact surface 35 at a non-zero angle or curved relative to axis X-X. A cap 40 is movably secured to the body 30 and is arranged over the cap contact surface 35. The cap 40 having a pad contact face 42 and an opposite body contact face 45. A resilient member 50 retains the cap 40 in an initial position where the cap contact surface 35 is spaced apart from the body contact face 45 of the cap. The cap 40 is moveable transversely relative to the axis X-X into an intermediate position and is from the intermediate position into a final position where the cap contact surface 35 contacts the body contact face such that movement of the cap transversely relative to the axis of the body is restrained.
