Zusammenfassung:An acceleration monitoring apparatus for generating acceleration data about a predetermined acceleration events such as shock or damaging loads or impacts. The apparatus comprises: a first accelerometer 102 comprising a first acceleration 104 sensor and a first processor 105 together with a second accelerometer 103 comprising a second acceleration sensor 107, and a second processor 108. In use the first processor of the first accelerometer continuously samples the first sensor signal from the first acceleration sensor to generate first acceleration data at a first sampling frequency and monitors the first acceleration data to determine if it is indicative of a predetermined acceleration event. If an event occurs the first processor sends a wake-up signal to the second processor. The second processor then exits a sleep mode and controls the second accelerometer to commence sampling a second sensor signal from the second acceleration sensor to generate second acceleration data at a second sampling frequency. The first sampling frequency is lower than said second sampling frequency such that a power consumption requirement of the first accelerometer when generating the first acceleration data is lower than a power consumption requirement of the second processor and second accelerometer when generating the second acceleration data.
