A fan assembly

A fan assembly (10, fig 1) comprises a refrigeration system (21, figs 4 - 6) having a heat exchanger 49; an airflow generator 20 communicating air thereover; and the exchanger surrounds (e.g. encircles) a major portion of the generator. The exchanger may be cylindrical and subtends a central angle (61, fig 8) of at least 270 degrees and is preferably 340 degrees. The assembly may comprise a filter assembly (18, 19, fig 2) surrounding (encircles) a major part of the exchanger. There is an axial gap 90 not less than 30mm and not greater than 70mm between an inlet 22 of the generator and a wall facing the inlet. There is a radial gap 94 not less than 20mm and not greater than 50mm between the generator and the exchanger. The assembly comprises a main body 15 having an inlet 25 within which the generator and refrigeration system are located, and a nozzle 11 having an outlet (13) attached to the body. A further heat exchanger 46 is embedded in a thermal store 43 and surrounds a major portion of a compressor 47 and attenuates noise. Condensate is collected in a tray 77 and drains 78 to a bottle 79.
