Magnetic coupler with force balancing

A magnetic coupling system 200, comprising: a drive magnet 202; a follower magnet 204 magnetically coupled to the drive magnet, wherein rotational movement of the drive magnet induces rotation of the follower magnet; and a magnetic balancing component 224 located to a side, perhaps the opposite side, of the follower magnet, wherein the magnetic balancing component and the drive magnet exert attractive magnetic forces on the follower magnet in opposite directions. The follower magnet and the balancing component may be in a follower chamber 210, while the drive magnet may be in a drive chamber 212. The chambers may form a physical barrier between the drive and follower. The drive may be coupled to a turbine 206, while the follower may drive a generator 208. The couplings may include shafts 205, 207 and thrust bearings 216, 218. The balancing of the axial forces may reduce friction on the follower magnet.
