Switch disconnector with an arc extinguishing device

A switch disconnector 10 comprises an electrical contact system 12 having fixed contacts 120 and movable contacts 121 for breaking a circuit, and a ferromagnetic plate 14 positioned at a predefined distance 16 to the contact system. The predefined distance is selected such that when an electric arc 18 forms between the contacts, the magnetizing force of the ferromagnetic plate on the electric arc pulls it onto the plate to interrupt it. The plate may be inclined with respect to the moving direction 28 of the movable contact at an angle between 0 degrees and 45 degrees such that each contact may be separated from the plate by the same distance. The plate may comprise at least one arm 20 extending from a side of the plate towards the contact system. Each arm may comprise an edge (22, figure 2) being inclined such that the distance of the arm to each of the contacts is the same. The plate may comprise a protrusion (24, figure 2) for fixing it within a housing of the disconnector. The plate may have a thickness selected to provide a predefined magnetic saturation level at a particular current.
