Vacuum system and method for sterilization

A vacuum system, preferably for food processing, comprises a main valve 20, a vacuum pump 10, and a steriliser 22. The pump 10 has an inlet 12 and an outlet 14, with inlet 12 connected to the main valve 20, e.g. via pipe 15, such that inlet 12 is in fluid communication with a processing chamber (not...

Zusammenfassung:A vacuum system, preferably for food processing, comprises a main valve 20, a vacuum pump 10, and a steriliser 22. The pump 10 has an inlet 12 and an outlet 14, with inlet 12 connected to the main valve 20, e.g. via pipe 15, such that inlet 12 is in fluid communication with a processing chamber (not shown) connected to the valve 20. Steriliser 22 is connected between main valve 20 and inlet 12 at a connection point 25 and can provide sterilising gas. A sterilisation valve 24 may be provided between steriliser 22 and connection point 25. The sterilising gas may be ozone, fluorine, bromine, iodine and/or hydrogen peroxide. The steriliser 22 may be an ozone generator which generates ozone via a plasma, electrolysis and electrostatic discharge. Inlet valve 26 and outlet valve 28 may be provided at the vacuum pump inlet and outlet respectively. A method for sterilising the vacuum system is also claimed, including the steps of closing main valve 20 and starting the steriliser 22, and preferably operating the vacuum pump 10 to draw sterilising gas from the steriliser 22 and into the pump 10.
