Flexible multiple ion detector system

A detector support system 1 for a mass spectrometer comprises a base 10 and detector supports 20, at least one of which is movable relative to the base. Flexible electrical connection elements 30 extend between electrical connection units 31 provided on each support and at least one electrical connection unit 32 provided on the base. The flexible electrical connection elements extending from adjacent electrical connection units are offset in the direction of their widths to avoid overlap and mechanical interference (figure 7). The flexible electrical connection element comprises a signal conductor (300, figure 8) extending over an elongate insulating flexible foil. Two shield conductors (321, 322, figure 8) extend on either side of the signal conductor to protect against interference. A protective layer (306, figure 8) covers at least part of the signal conductor and shield conductors whilst leaving contact areas (C1, C2, figure 8) exposed. The signal conductor has a width of less than 0.5 mm. The flexible connection element has a width at least 10 times its thickness.
