Zusammenfassung:A Fischer-Tropsch catalyst comprising greater than 40wt% cobalt with an apparent packed bulk density of greater than 1.3 g/mL. Preferably the catalyst comprises greater than 45 wt% or more preferably 50 wt% of cobalt. Preferably the packed apparent bulk density of the catalyst is greater than 1.4 g/mL, more preferably greater than 1.5 g/mL and most preferably greater than 1.6 g/mL. The catalyst may in addition comprise less than 3 wt% noble metals. Preferably the catalyst may be supported upon a catalyst support. This support may comprise silica. Also disclosed is a method for the production of Fischer-Tropsch catalysts. The method comprises the steps of first impregnating a porous support with a solution or suspension of a cobalt containing compound whereby the amount impregnated is greater than 100 % of the pore volume of the support, the support is then dried under heat at a temperature below that of the reflux temperature of the solution or suspension. Preferably the catalyst is then calcined.
