Zusammenfassung:	An ion diffuser for generating ions comprises a cavity 11 arranged to receive a substance and a power source 12 to provide a current to the substance, to cause the emission of ions from the substance. The ion diffuser can include a capsule 20 that is located in the cavity by magnets 15,16 and contains an ion emitting substance 21. Power source 12 can comprise a battery and provide current to the substance in the form of a high voltage spark via electrodes 13, 14, 22, 23 comprising an anode and a cathode. A distributor 16 such as a fan can distribute the ions and a filter can block emission of matter from the diffuser. A substance identifier can identify a characteristic, type, volume, capacity or authorisation of a substance, which can be displayed on a user interface. Duration and magnitude of current provided to the substance may depend upon its characteristic. Plural cavities can receive plural substances to be selected by a user input.
