Zusammenfassung: | A method of machining articles from a disc comprising superhard material, the method comprising steps of providing a disc having a diameter of no more than 100 mm and a thickness of no more than 10 mm, providing a nesting pattern comprising one or more articles to be machined from the disc, scanning the disc to identify non-defective and defective portions of the disc, said defective portions comprising microstructural flaws, scratches, and compositional contaminants, overlaying the nesting pattern onto defective and non-defective portions of the disc to create a machining program, and machining the articles out of the disc according to said machining program. The step of scanning the disc may comprise ultrasonically scanning the disc. The superhard material may be polycrystalline diamond (PCD) or polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN). The machining step may comprise wire electro-discharge machining or wire laser cutting. The method may be carried out by way of a computer program comprising computer-readable code. |
