Zusammenfassung:	A method of treating a rail R1, R2, e.g. of a railway track, for reducing its propensity for undergoing thermally-induced buckling, comprising applying to at least a portion of a surface of the rail R1, R2 a thermally-insulating composition comprising particles of a thermally insulating material and a matrix material. The thermally insulating composition will may comprise porous expanded recycled glass particles, beads or granules, and the matrix material, may comprise a polymer resin or binder material. Additionally, disclosed is an apparatus for treating a rail with a thermally-insulating composition comprising particles of a thermally insulating material and a matrix material, and the composition. The composition may be applied to the rail in the form of a liquid precursor composition by means of spraying.
