Zusammenfassung:	Laser cleaning apparatus (100) comprises a laser system (102) configured to output laser light. A delivery cable (106) delivers the laser light to a cleaning head. A cleaning head (110) comprises a housing (112 Fig. 2), input optics (114, Fig 2), and output optics (116, Fig. 2) configured to focus thelaser light (104) to have a fluence at a focal plane (126) that is greater than an ablation threshold of a surface contaminant to be removed from a surface to be cleaned. Scanning apparatus (118, Fig. 2) scans the laser light across a scan region within the focal plane such that the scanning laser light has an effective divergence greater than a divergence of the laser light. Scan monitoring apparatus (120, Fig. 2) monitors said scanning of the laser light and generates an alarm signal (108) in response to determining that the scanning has changed. An interlock apparatus (122, Fig. 3) causes the laser to shut down in response to receiving said alarm signal.
