Intelligent trap and consumables

A trap consumable 30, such as a UV light bulb 31 or glue board 32, is provided with a device 70 such as an RFID tag with an associated electronic identification code 80. A trap 20 is provided with data capture means 40 (e.g. an RFID reader) by which a status 90 of the consumable can be read and relayed back to a system operator 60. Where the consumable is a glue board it may comprise a back face (35, Fig 3) with a sensor affixed thereto and a capture surface (37, Fig 3) having an adhesive (36, Fig 3) thereon. The sensor can detect flying insects by mutual capacitance sensing, comprising a sensor conductor (12, Fig 4) which is a transmit electrode (Tx, Fig 4), and two electrically conductive un-grounded conductors (14a; 14b, Fig 4) which are receive electrodes (Rx, Fig 4).
