Zusammenfassung:A method of providing a filament for fused filament fabrication (FFF) comprises arranging a first set of reinforcement fibres 100, including a first reinforcement fibre 100A; forming a first discontinuity 110A of a first set of discontinuities 110 in the first reinforcement fibre, by laser ablating, cutting, punching and/or water jetting; arranging the fibres in a planar arrangement, surrounding the first set of reinforcement fibres, at least in part, with a first polymeric composition by pultrusion. Preferably, the reinforcement fibres are axially aligned in a planar arrangement in a jig. A filament for fused filament fabrication and a method for fabricating an article by fused filament fabrication are further provided. The formation of discontinuities attenuates a mechanical property - such as tensile strength and/or stiffness - of the first set of reinforcement fibres such that manipulation quality issues and pull out of fibres are reduced to allow articles having complex shapes to be fabricated by FFF whilst improving mechanical properties of the articles due to a relatively higher volume fraction of fibres compared to conventional filaments. A method is also provided, depositing the filament in an arc having a radius in a range from 0.5 mm to 20 mm.
