Isolator

A modular isolator apparatus comprises an isolator or glovebox 2 comprising a housing and an isolator coupling member 12 disposed around an opening 16 allowing at least one functional unit such as a blank end cap 36a to be reversibly coupled to the isolator 2 by means of a functional unit coupling member such as flange 38. The apparatus further comprises at least one sealing member 26 to create an airtight seal between the coupling members 12, 38 and at least one locking member such as cam lock 32 to secure the functional unit to the isolator 2. The apparatus is characterised in that when the functional unit is not secured to the isolator 2 it is removable therefrom. The functional unit may also be a rapid transfer port (RTP 36b fig. 9A), a pass-through hatch end airlock (36c fig. 9B), a centre isolator to isolator pass hatch airlock (36d fig. 9C), or an isolator to isolator sleeve (36e fig. 9D).
