Zusammenfassung:	A cathode composition for a lithium-ion cell or battery of the general formula: Li1+Mn1−O2 wherein the composition is in the form of a single phase having a rock salt crystal structure; and the value of x is greater than 0, and equal to or less than 0.3. x may be equal to 0.2. The composition can be formed from two precursors, such as LiMnO2 and Li2MnO3, and mixed via a ball milling process. Additives and binders may also be added such as carbon black.
