Zusammenfassung: | A polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (pCBN) composite material which compries (by volume): 60-90 % cubic boron nitride particles and 40-10 % binder matrix material in which the cBN particles are dispersed. The binder matrix material comprises a tungsten-rhenium alloy and 0.5-10 % by weight aluminium in a form other than oxide. The tungsten-rhenium alloy can comprise 72-77 % by weight tungsten and the balance rhenium. The aluminium forms a layer of aluminium nitride and/or aluminium boride on the cBN particles. The material can be used to make friction stir welding tools. The material can be made by mixing particles of cBN with aluminium powder and either separate particles of tungsten and rhenium or particles which comprise both tungsten and rhenium, e.g. pre-alloyed or as separate phases such as one element coating the other. |
