Zusammenfassung:A battery pack 30 for a vacuum cleaner comprises a plurality of cells (34, fig 3) arranged in a generally planar array, a first projection 50 extending along an axis 54 which is generally normal to the plane of the array, the first projection comprising at least one electrical terminal 70, and a second projection 52 extending along an axis 56 which is generally parallel to the axis of the first projection. The second projection has an axial length at least 10% of the axial length of the first projection, preferably at least 30% and less than 70%. The second projection may include a charging port 86. A vacuum cleaner (2, figs 1 & 7), preferably of the handheld or 'stick' type, comprising the battery pack is also described. Preferably, the battery pack and vacuum cleaner include a manually operated releasable latch mechanism for securing the battery pack to the vacuum cleaner.
