Zusammenfassung:A split cycle internal combustion engine 101, comprising a combustion cylinder 126 accommodating a combustion piston 128, a compression cylinder 104 accommodating a compression piston 108, and a controller 100 arranged to receive an indication of a parameter associated with the combustion cylinder 126 and/or a fluid associated therewith and to control the amount of the liquid provided to the compression cylinder 104 in dependence in the indicated parameter so that a "normal mode" quantity of the liquid is provided to the compression cylinder 104 when the indicated parameter is equal to or greater than a first target value, and a "hot mode" quantity of the liquid is provided to the compression cylinder 104 when the indicated parameter is greater than a second target value, wherein the first and second target values are different and wherein the "hot mode" quantity is more than the "normal mode" quantity. The arrangement is intended to achieve efficient combustion during a cold start.
