Zusammenfassung: | An environmental control system that is coupled with an enclosure and comprises: an electrochemical system with an anode, a cathode and an anion conducting layer between and in contact with the anode and cathode and comprising an anion conducting polymer; a working fluid; a power supply coupled electrically with the anode and cathode to produce a voltage potential; wherein the voltage potential at the cathode produces hydroxyl ions and that at the cathode consumes hydroxyl ions to create a pH gradient to transfer the working fluid from cathode to anode. The working fluid may comprise carbon dioxide and air or oxygen. The carbon dioxide may be in equilibrium with bicarbonate ions which may be transported through the anion conducting layer and reformed into CO2. The anode and/or cathode may also comprise a catalyst. The anion conducting membrane may be supported by a material with a porosity of 55-90%. The enclosure may be a vehicle, aircraft, submarine or greenhouse. A wick may be present to hydrate the anion conducting layer. |
