Manipulating a face in an image

A method and apparatus for processing an image 100 which comprises obtaining facial parameters 110 related to properties of a face in an image and contextual parameters 120 related to a context associated with the image (this can include metadata associated with the image and/or generated by analysing the image). An image manipulation is determined in dependence on the obtained facial parameters and contextual parameters, and applied to the image to obtain a modified image 150 in which an appearance of the face is dependent on the context associated with the image. The face in the image may be manipulated based on a parameterised face model 130, 140. The face may be in the background of the image and may be processed to anonymise or blur the face. The face may be in the foreground of the image and processed to bring the facial parameters of the face closer to reference facial parameters.
