Zusammenfassung: | A trailer 130, for example for a HGV 100, has a coupling to connect the trailer to a tractor unit 120 so that safety functions can be operated through command signals. A control unit with an inertial measurement unit can operate trailer safety functions, such as brake lights or direction indicator lights, by reference to comparisons between measured acceleration or deceleration of the trailer with predetermined criteria. Typically the safety functions operated inertially are in parallel to other safety functions operated through signals from the tractor unit. The control unit may be at the front of the trailer, and may be directly mechanically connected to a kingpin of a fifth wheel coupling; alternatively the control unit may be mechanically connected to an axle of the trailer. |
