Zusammenfassung:A method of establishing user identity comprising forwarding verification data, such as a privately identifiable document, from a user 2 to a server 4. A cryptographic hash of the data is created, and a package of the verification data is returned to the user, without retaining the verification data at the server. Subsequently the package is used confirm the identity of the user by reference to the cryptographic hash, e.g. when the user wants to use a service 5. The cryptographic hash may be recorded in a distributed ledger in the form of a blockchain.
