Systems and methods for assessing configuration files associated with a process control system

A method of assessing versions of a configuration file associated with a modular control system in a process plant comprises: comparing 515 a version of the configuration file stored in a computing device with a version of the configuration file stored in a controller; identifying 510 a last backup of the controller configuration file; and presenting 520, via a user interface, an indication of the configuration files and a result of the comparing. Comparing the computing device and controller versions of the configuration file may comprise comparing associated timestamps and/or hash outputs. The controller or computing device version of the configuration file may be updated 535, 545. Alternatively, a difference in the computing device version of the configuration file with respect to the controller version may be resolved 555.
