Adaptor and method for converting a sausage extrusion machine

A static extrusion machine 10 suitable for co-extruding an alginate gel sausage casing material with a filler material, includes a static extrusion head 12 comprising an extrusion nozzle 14 incorporating a static cylindrical extrusion die (16, figure 10) and an adaptor 18. The invention extends to the adaptor 18 which is configured for converting a collagen extrusion machine into the static extrusion machine 10 and comprises a connector body 20 for connecting the extrusion nozzle 14 to a filler material feed pipe of the collagen extrusion machine. The collagen extrusion machine is of a type incorporating rotating jacket technology and includes the filler material feed pipe which passes through a centre of an extrusion head of the collagen extrusion machine for conveying filler material through the extrusion head. The extrusion head of the collagen extrusion machine is removed and a static extrusion head is installed in place thereof between the filler material feed pipe of the collagen extrusion machine and the static extrusion head, thereby converting the collagen extrusion machine into the static extrusion machine.
