Zusammenfassung:	An apparatus 1 comprising two heaters: a toaster 56 and a device 57 to char wood. A conveyor 8 rotatable about a central shaft 4 with radially spaced apertured 22 plates 20 can carry barrel heads 23 past the heaters. Adjustable support fingers 21 can allow the plate to carry barrel heads of different sizes. Each heater 50 can include gas burners 51 with valves controlled by a computer in response to data from temperature sensors. The charring heater can be hotter than the toasting heater, hot enough to initiate combustion or create charcoal. The barrel heads can be cooled by spraying 70 mist from a water tank 72 via a nozzle. The mist can be recycled after condensing. The barrel heads 23 can be loaded 10 onto the conveyor and then conveyed past the heaters. It can be the barrel heads inner face that is toasted and then charred.
