Method of plugging and pressure testing a well

A method of plugging a well for abandonment comprising, conveying a plug placement and verification tool (PPVT) to a location in the well, the PPVT having a stinger 116 to deliver plugging material, an expandable packer 122 at one end of the stinger and one or more sensors 126, where the packer is operated to form a seal, plugging material is delivered above the packer thereby forming a plug and the stinger being left within the plug to act as a communications path through the plug for signals from the sensor(s). A mechanical plug or packer 114 may be installed below the plug location, the mechanical plug may be a bridge plug and it may be installed across the entire casing or liner. Openings 130, 132 may be created in the casing at at least two depths before the installation of the plug, where the mechanical plug is installed below both and the plug is formed between the two openings. The sensor(s) may be used to verify the plug once formed. The sensor(s) may include pressure or temperature sensors.
