Zusammenfassung:	A video surveillance system is adapted to localize number plates of stationary or moving vehicles in the field of view of one or more cameras. Optical character recognition may be used to identify the license which may be associated with other information such as car type, driver snapshot, or vehicle shape. The system may localize the number plate by: analysing statistical correlation and relative contrast of the number plate; identifying the signature of a number plate from relative pixel intensity and vertical and horizontal distribution; or from colour features. The surveillance system forms part of an automated traffic enforcement system.
