Zusammenfassung: | A method for fabricating an integral assembly (24, Figures 1 and 2) is disclosed. The method comprises performing friction welding between a first surface 52 of a first workpiece 26 and a second surface 54 of a second workpiece 30, wherein the first workpiece has a surface layer friction-weld property different from the bulk friction weld property. The friction weld property indicates how easily the material may be friction welded and preferably the surface layer friction weld-property makes the surface easier to weld than the bulk. The friction weld property is preferably hardness and the surface is preferably softer than the bulk. The friction weld property may alternatively comprise flow stress, rate of softening, crystal grain size or amount of gamma in the alloy phase. The method is suitable for fabricating an integral assembly such as a bladed disc, drum or ring. The method may include preparation of the first workpiece by forming a surface layer by additive layer manufacture. The second workpiece may also have a surface layer friction-weld property different from the bulk friction weld property. The friction welding may comprise linear friction welding, rotary friction welding, orbital friction welding or friction stir welding. |
