Network method and apparatus

A communications device 101 communicates over a LAN 104 with user equipment (UE) devices 103a,103b,103c and communicates with a server 106 over a WAN 105. A resource may be selected at device 101 from a list displayed to a user. The device 101 sends a message over LAN 104 identifying the resource to the UEs. The message also instructs the UEs to obtain a list associated with the selected resource, from the server 106. The device 101 receives request data from the UEs indicating items from the list which have been chosen by each UE. The device 101 combines the request data and in response to a confirmation message from a UE, provides the combined request data to a selected UE. That UE then transmits the combined request data to the server and an update identifier to the communications device to confirm request data is being processed at the server. In response the device sends a trigger message to the server to send a series of update messages back to it as the request is processed. This enables the UEs to be updated as to progress while reducing load on the network.
