Zusammenfassung:Generating an orthomosaic image of a geographical survey area includes the following steps : a. recording a set of still images of the survey area using a land-borne camera, in which the camera has an optical axis that is angled downwardly with respect to a surface of the survey area and recording a geographical position corresponding to each image; b. comparing pairs of partially overlapping images to identify common features in the image to derive a model of the motion between the images; c. calculating a pose in respect of each image describing where the camera was in world coordinates and where it was looking when the image was captured; d. projecting each image onto a ground plane to create a set of image tiles; e. generating for each orthomosaic tile to be stitched, an associated set of images whose projections overlap the tile to be stitched and f. stitching together a plurality of image tiles to create an orthostatic image corresponding to an area that is present in a plurality of the images recorded in step a. The associated set of images may be derived by computing the projection of the corners of each image and performing an inside-polygon test for each tile.
