Zusammenfassung:A method for machining a surface 14 of a metal component 10, in particular a connecting rod or a cam for a motor vehicle, comprises the following steps: providing a metal component 10 which has a surface 14 to be machined; premachining the surface 14 to be machined; and structuring the premachined surface 14 using a laser beam 16 in such a way that elevations 20 but no depressions are formed as laser structures on the premachined surface 14 with respect to the level thereof. The premachining step may comprise fine boring of an aperture to provide the desired diameter bore with an inner circumferential surface forming the surface 14 to be machined. The method may be adapted for particular metals used as the metal component, e.g. titanium or titanium alloy, or steel, wherein the laser beam power, rate of advance of the laser beam, and pulse frequency and duration of the laser beam when provided as a pulsed laser beam, are adjusted accordingly in order to form the surface 14 with elevations 20 but no depressions.
