Mineral winning pick, pick holder, and combination

A pick for attachment to an excavating machine for working a material to be excavated. The pick comprises a head 20 having a blade to impact and separate the material to be excavated, a shank 22 releasably retained in a pick holder mounted on the excavating machine and a shoulder 30 below the blade. The shoulder extends further forward than the blade and may feature angled bearing surfaces 41, which mate with corresponding surfaces on the pick holder. The shank has a front end and a rear end opposite the front end, at least one of the front end and the rear end may include a pair of bearing surfaces 59 to bear against complementary surfaces on the pick holder, wherein the said bearing surfaces are generally planar and diverge laterally away from each other.
