Zusammenfassung:An airbag system, designed to reduce injury during an offset vehicular impact, comprising a centre airbag 10 and two peripheral airbags 11, 12 wherein an internal baffle vent (50, Fig.4) is located between the centre airbag and each peripheral airbag. The baffle vent facilitates gas flow from the centre airbag to the peripheral airbags, but impedes gas flow in the reverse direction. At least two of the peripheral chambers have a greater depth and width than the centre chamber. The peripheral airbags may be configured to receive a passengers head chest, left shoulder or right shoulder. The baffle vents could comprise one or more holes disposed over a hole in a chamber divider, and one or more flaps configured to impede gas flow by partially or completely covering the one or more holes. Preferably, the one or more holes comprise one central hole (41, Fig.3) and four peripheral holes (51). A further independent claim describes the use of sensors on the vehicle to deploy the airbag described in claim 1 in the event of a collision.
