Zusammenfassung:An intubation aid 10, such as a stylet or bougie, for insertion into an endotracheal tube 30 has a cross-sectional shape having at least one vertex defining a longitudinally extending edge. The intubation aid is supported within the endotracheal tube, in use, by the edge or edges which may extend along the entire length of the intubation aid. The cross-section of the aid may be polygonal and is preferably a regular hexagon. The distal tip of the aid is rounded and its proximal tip may be tapered and/or recessed such that it can be bent around to locate flush with the body of the aid to form a handle which can subsequently be secured by inserting it into the proximal end of the endotracheal tube (figures 6 and 7). The aid may be divided into portions 16 and 20 which are malleable and portions 18 and 22 which are resiliently flexible.
