Zusammenfassung:A vehicle control system 1 for controlling a transfer case 3 which is operable in a high range and a low range. The control system 1 comprises a range change selection means 21, e.g. button, lever, paddle, touchscreen etc, for selecting first and second control strategies for the transfer case 3. Control strategy selection is based on an activation time of the selection means 21, for example user press time of the button. The selection means 21 is connected to a transfer case control module (TCCM) 2 so that, depending on which control strategy is selected, either high or low range may be selected. If the activation time is less than a predefined threshold the first strategy is selected and if greater the second strategy is selected. The strategies implement a deferred range change depending on a user defined speed or acceleration of a vehicle. The strategies may also implement a concurrent range change depending on a user defined speed or acceleration of a vehicle. Reference is also made to a method of controlling a vehicle.
