Zusammenfassung:	A method for the treatment and safe disposal of needles utilises a device 100 which comprises a support member 103 (for example a tray) having at least one recess 104. Each said at least one recess is configured to receive a needle (201, Fig1) contained in a corresponding plastic needle cap (208, Fig 1). The device further comprises a heating element (107, Fig 3) configured to heat the support member, such that the plastic material of the needle cap softens and flows to encapsulate the corresponding needle. Each said at least one recess has dimensions such that, after heating, the needle is fully encapsulated by the plastic material of the corresponding needle cap. In one embodiment the device comprises a chamber 102 which contains the support member and heating element and a lid 105 which seals the chamber when it is closed.
